River Ridge Shopping Center
Birmingham, AL · Interior common-area LED retrofit
A 162,745-square-foot community center in Birmingham, Alabama, home to Academy Sports, Marshalls, World Market, Dollar Tree, and Nordstrom Rack. Served by Alabama Power, this well-tenanted center required interior lighting improvements to match the quality of its national-brand tenant lineup.
The Problem
The interior lighting was aging CFL and fluorescent — producing diminished light output and requiring frequent replacements to maintain acceptable light levels in the common area corridors, entrances, and service areas.
The Approach
We completed the interior conversion in November 2022, replacing every interior fixture with LED equivalents. Recessed cans received particular attention as the primary illumination in the common area corridors where shoppers move between stores. Wallpacks were upgraded to improve entrance and perimeter visibility.
The Results
$3,536 in total annual savings. While the absolute savings were more modest compared to larger exterior projects, the maintenance savings eliminated the ongoing lamp replacement cycle, and the improved light quality in the common areas created a noticeably better shopping environment.
